The 7-speed Shimano shifter was the selling point for me, and my son figured out the gears on his first ride around the block. The aluminum frame is light enough that he can pick the bike up himself when he tips it.
My daughter moved up from a single-speed and the 7-speed Shimano shifter was easy for her to figure out in one afternoon. The aluminum frame is light enough that she can pick it up herself when she tips over.
We got this for my 7-year-old and the adjustable padded seat is a game-changer as he grows. The aluminum frame makes it light enough for him to carry up the porch steps, and the 7-speed shifter is surprisingly smooth for a kids' bike.
