How to Choose the Right Adult Shirt Size

Quick Answer

To choose the right adult shirt size, measure your chest and compare it to the brand's size chart, then decide based on your preferred fit—regular for a classic look, or size up for a relaxed feel.

Step-by-Step Sizing Process

1. Measure your chest: Wrap a measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level under your arms. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters. Do this over a light shirt, not a bulky sweater, for accuracy.
2. Check the size chart: Compare your chest measurement to the brand's size chart. For a regular fit, choose the size that matches your measurement; for a relaxed fit, go one size up. Size charts are your best friend—always reference them before buying.
3. Consider the shirt's intended use: Think about how you'll wear the shirt. For casual outings, a regular fit is versatile; for layering or lounging, a larger size offers more comfort. If you're between sizes, decide based on your preferred fit, not just the numbers.
